Anthea Moffat - Monday, March 29, 2010

Is your business the most valuable asset you own?

Even if you are not currently considering selling you want to ensure that you are setting up your business in order to maximise your return on your investment. It is estimated that only 1 in 100 small business owners successfully exit their business. And yet the steps you need to take in order to beat these odds are very simple.

All business owners need to have an exit strategy for their business. Even if you are just starting out, it’s important to ask yourself several key questions.

The 7 Critical Questions Every Business Owner Must Ask…

Regardless of whether you plan to sell your business or not, when you focus on making your business more attractive to potential buyers the end result will be a better, more robust and more profitable business. To see if you are on track, assess the following:

1.     Is my business structure optimal for my circumstances?
2.     Is my business scaleable?
3.     Is my business teachable?
4.     Do my clients have an ongoing need for your products and services?
5.     Do I have a standard product or service offering?
6.     Can my business operate successfully without me?
7.     Is my business cash-flow positive?

If your answer to some of these questions is no, then these are the things that you need to prioritise working on.
